The New Upgrade 25X Capability RMAF F/A 18 Hornet D

Another entry report regarding LIMA 2015, The achievement of RMAF Hornet D go through Mid Life Upgrade as known as Intergration 25X Capability by Boeing to 6nos Hornet D Fleet from 18th Fighter Squadron based in Butterworth Airbase.

I had a great opportunity to see live this RMAF Hornet D+ face to face and see their upgrade part. As we know as, This upgrade has been programmed in Foreign Military Sales Program. 

The contract has been covers for new design,development and installation new navigation,targeting and situational awareness which includes the new upgrade program includes:

  • Raytheon AN/ASQ-228 Advanced Targeting Forward Looking IR (ATFLIR)
  • BAE System AN/APX-111 "Birdslicer" IFF Interogator.
  • Joint Helmet Mounted Cueing System (JHCMS) 
In other hand, RMAF Hornet D has been supplied with new ordnance including AIM 9X sidewinder AAM, AIM 120 C7 AMRAAM and GBU 31 JDAM 

The upgrades also make the RMAF’s F/A-18Ds more compatible with the F/A-18E/F Super Hornet, which Boeing is offering to meet Malaysia’s Multi-Role Combat Aircraft needs.The government of Malaysia ordered eight F/A-18D Hornets in 1993. Since delivering all aircraft on schedule in 1997, Boeing has been providing sustainment support for the fleet at the RMAF base in Butterworth, Malaysia. These support programs include engineering and logistics support, pilot training and technical publications.
